Yes, it's been a busy weekend plus a few more days! Last week four men and a 13 year old from TX came to help out at the YWAM base. They spent about four days up there, and three days working on Ernie's machinery. They get some major stuff done!! They can weld, do electrical stuff, and anything inbetween. This is part of their vacation time they spend to help others! What a blessing.
How it came about is that John Jordan was Terran's roommate at LeTourneau University. Jeremy was also a Dorm 4 guy, and they are the ones that lead this team. This is the third year they've done this, so it's called Operation Woodchuck III. :-) The Woodchuck part comes from Ernie's logging department.
So anyway, I went up to the logging camp and stayed there three days, having prepared some dinners ahead of time, and then was there to make breakfasts and lunches, too. It was a neat camping experience for me, because Ernie does it all the time, so it's no big deal for him. But the fun part was having the guys work right there near the trailer, so it wasn't like they had to leave to go to work.
On Monday morning, tho, I was in camp alone, peeling peaches for their breakfast, and I look out the Nomad window, and there's a bear walking right past our picnic table!! It was so cute! I knew he smelled the trash, so I went out the door and sort of shooed him away. He walked slowly, and so I got louder, then tho't I better take a digital pic so I have proof that he was here! Of course, the camera batteries are dead!! Then when he was a ways off, he stood on his hind feet! I don't think he ever came back, and we kept the trash can in the back of the big Dodge.
I came home Monday nite, because Tuesday I usually answer the phones at Grace Comm Church. But there was a Memorial service for a 50 yr. old man who had done his DTS up at Cimarron in the 80's. He met his wife there, and they have three boys, aged 14, 12, and 9. This Kevin Lewko had a rare form of lung cancer, and died within two months of the verdict. One of those events when you wonder how the Lord will turn it to good. We do know that all things are possible with Him, so have to trust him in that!
Now I'll continue with my busy week. On Wednesday I went up to the YWAM base, because these TX guys were up there again, so I cooked a couple suppers and a lunch. I came back down today, and now am telling you my story! The funny thing is, that Ernie had to order a part down here in Montrose, so the nite I'm up at YWAM he's at home here in our house! How crazy is that!! I usually don't see him all week, but the one nite he comes home, I'm gone!
I'll see him on Sunday, when he and the boys will come to Grand Junction for another volley ball tournament. This is called 'King of the Court', where each player plays the different players in their pool, and racks up points. Then the guys will go back to work from there, since it's only 2 hours away, instead of coming home to Montrose. So it's a weird week for me.
I'll keep you updated on the last couple weeks of our summer!! Schools down here in Colorado start around the 22nd already! Arlin's volball practices start the 15th, but Dad needs him to keep working a bit longer. He's practiced all summer in volball with these tournaments, so he'll be okay. I don't have this year's curriculum yet, anyway, but it's ordered!

Hmmmm, you really shushed a bear away? Honestly? then prove it Lil, methinks you are braver than me. I just took a book out of the library today called "The bear's embrace" - "A true story of surviving a grizzly bear attack"
Ok, Even Though you Didn't Get a Picture, I think you are basically an honest sister - so I believe you. Good to read your latest blog, keep it up. Love Judy
Lil, the other day I was walking from the back quarter to home,to get lunch for Wes, and he tells me that there was a bear cub in a tree later that day, right where I was walking, Believe it??! I was unawares, totally. Marge
God protects us even when we're unaware, or crazy!! Yes Judy, it was like shooing a dog away. I always wondered what I'd do if I met a bear so close, so now I know. But I had the safety of the camper right there, and Ernie's Dodge truck (in case I had to drive away!) I think this was quite different from meeting a grizzly, tho! Then my heart would be pounding!!
